Approach to the French National Policy from Franceユs Presidential Election in 2002
FAPIG No. 166 pp.3−9 (2004)

An expected event was happened in the Franceユs Presidential Election in 2002. That event, called "democracy crisis", was setteled in peace, it however had Franceユs pride badly hurt. Thinking about what Franceユs pride is with reviewing the election and French modern history, it comes to seem that the current French national policy is very closely linked with its pride.

Actual Results of Operation and Improvement of The Fuel-Handling-Machine for Fugen Power Plant
FAPIG No. 166 pp.17−24 (2004)

In March 29, 2003, the ATR (Advanced thermal reactor) Fugen has finished the mission of development as the prototype reactor and terminated the operation since 25 years from the first critical. During this operation, Fugen accomplished as follows ; Total generating power amount about 219kWh, the average facility utilization rate was 62%, the refueling counted 4700 times (New fuel and reloading fuel).
In one of the equipment that supports this operation, there is the Fuel Handling Machine by which Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. took charge of production and the installation.
In the 25-year process of the operation, Fuji Electric did a various improvement, which is not anticipated at first by the step of the design.
In this report, we introduce an overview about the typical improvement construction to have implemented on the operation results and the operation passage of the fuel exchange equipment.

Design and Fabrication of Water Control Unit for IASCC Irradiation Test
FAPIG No. 166 pp.25−32 (2004)

In relation to the aging of LWR, the Irradiation Assisted Stress Corrosion Cracking (IASCC) has been regarded as a significant and urgent issue for the reliability of in-core components of LWR, therefore the irradiation research project which was planned by Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency is now being done under the cooperation of Industry-Government-Academia such as Japan Nuclear Energy Safety Organization, Institute of Research and Innovation (IRI), Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry, Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI), power companies, makers of LWR, and universities. Then at Japan Material Testing Reactor (JMTR) of JAERI, the irradiation test of the material for BWR is being carried out.
This paper describes the introduction about the Water Control Unit (WCU) for IASCC irradiation test. The WCU was designed and installed into JMTR by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, LTD, based on the order from JAERI, IRI, and so on.

100MW-Class Combined Cycle Power Plant of E-Square Co., Ltd.
FAPIG No. 166 pp.33−38 (2004)

The Electric Utility Industry Law of Japan was modified again in May, 1999. This has enabled any power products suppliers of specific scale to sell electric power on a retail basis.
The 100MW-class combined cycle power plant introduced here generates electricity on the FT-8 aero derivative gas turbines. It was delivered to E-square Co., Ltd., where it is to serve as a power supply source for the retail of power products.

Friction Spot Joining (FSJ) System
FAPIG No. 166 pp.39−41 (2004)

Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. has developed a brand new spot joining process for aluminum alloys and exhibited the system at 2003 International Robot Show in Tokyo. In the process, named Friction Spot Joining (FSJ), a joining tool that has a small pin at the tip is rotated and plunged into lapped plates to be joined. Material around the pin is softened due to the friction heat and stirred by rotational motion of the tool. This unique and simple solid phase joining process has remarkable advantages in comparison with conventional resistance spot welding and riveting, such as low energy consumption, smaller deformation and higher reliability of the joint.

A Trial to the Real-Time Disaster Monitoring by Satellite SAR Data
FAPIG No. 166 pp.42−51 (2004)

While the earth observation technology by artificial satellites has come into use practically in recent years and been expected to be applied to the field of disaster prevention surveillance, the validity of the technology in the practical use is becoming bigger theme.
In NIED (National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention), the prototype of the disaster monitoring system has built using a Supercomputer system and high-speed network Tsukuba WAN , and the demonstrative test has been started as a part of an international joint research project.
This paper reports our trial to real-time disaster monitoring such as system development for satellite SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) data processing etc.

Impact-Resistance Capacity of Steel Plate Reinforced Concrete Slabs Subjected
to Collision of High-Velocity Projectile
FAPIG No. 166 pp.53−62 (2004)

It is necessary to ensure safety to various loads about important structures, such as nuclear facilities, and the impact load caused by aircraft collision is also one of them. Commonly, reinforced concrete (RC) slabs are adopted to protection design against impact load, but the steel plate reinforced concrete (SC) slabs are expected to have higher impact-resistance capacity compared to RC slabs due to the effect of the steel plates of concrete surfaces.
In view of this situation, the authors conducted experimental study aimed at evaluating the resistance of SC slabs to missile impact, and it was confirmed that SC slabs have higher impact-resistance capacity to RC slabs. Additionally, the formula for the perforation thickness of SC slabs was proposed.

KEYWORDS: steel plate reinforced concrete, impact-resistance capacity, rigid missile, local damage, impact experiment, formula for perforation thickness
